Bruce Percy - leader for the photographic
workshop in Chile. Bruce's site has multiple portfolios from Patagonia, as well
as others from Iceland, Peru, Norway, etc. Check out his site for information on
more upcoming workshops. He has a photo of our group at the end of his portfolio
for the workshop
here.
Bruce was a great guide and he knows the area well. He gave good advice on technique,
and the sessions he ran where we reviewed people's photos were very helpful in improving
my compositional skills. He's also a very social chap and has lots of great stories
to tell over the dinner table.
Bruce Percy's Scottish Workshops - Bruce is running
a number of workshops around Scotland, both weekend and longer formats. His photos from Scotland
are magical, and Scotland is perfect for landscape photography. Moody weather and strong landscapes
combined with being peaceful and remote.
Andean Trails - organisers for the Chilean
workshop. All the logistics of the workshop were organised between Andean Trails
and Bruce. Andean Trails also helped me sort out getting there and back, as well
as organising all of the second half of the trip in Argentina. Tom and Kathy were
very helpful, so if you're looking at one of their workshops or just a trip to South
America, check them out.
If you're thinking of going on one of their
photography workshops,
I think you'll have a ball. If you're really keen on photography, that's all you need to
enjoy it. Apart from some kind of camera of course. You get some concentrated time in a
great region and their local knowledge helps you spend most of your time in the
good locations for photography instead of trying to find them.
David Sheehan's photos from the workshop - Dave was the one running around
all the time. You'd be standing there lining up a shot and this blur would pass
in front of you. It would be Dave literally running off to another vantage point.
Check out his photos!
The Natural History Museum's Wildlife Photography
of the Year Award - an annual competition run by the museum, with the finalists
displayed in London and other locations around the world. I really enjoy this exhibition.
The lengths that people go to in order to get the amazing photos make for great
reading as you browse. I entered a few of my photos to the competition out of curiousity.
They made the semi-finals, which isn't too bad. I would have been stoked to get
to the finals, but when you see the winners, you can see the difference.
The exhibition in London generally runs November-March. It opens up in a few other
places around the world, such as Sydney, a while after the London exhibition opens.
The website has details of where it's showing, so go have a look!
Ken Rockwell - photographer and general
pot stirrer. Lots of Nikon reviews on his site, which can be quite useful. Very
opinionated but often informative, I wouldn't so much take a pinch of salt with
the site as take a pinch of the site with some salt.
Thom Hogan - Good for Nikon reviews and rumours
on upcoming gear. He seems to have some good sources and his reviews are quite insightful.
He also runs workshops in the US and occasionally overseas which look good, they're just
on the wrong continent for me!
